Dickens's Fagin and the History of the Jew in English Literature

Dr. Morgentaler is a professor of English at the University of Lethbridge, where she teaches 19th century British and American literature, as well as modern Jewish literature. She is the author of a monograph called “Dickens and Heredity” as well as of numerous articles on Dickens and is currently the President of the Dickens Society. She is also a translator from Yiddish to English.

Join us on the evening of Nov. 4 (Monday) when Dr. Morgentaler will give us a short history of how Jews have traditionally been depicted in English literature and how Dickens depiction of Fagin fits into that tradition.
