Dickens on Film

Delving into the archives and examining magical films from the silent era to high-definition, 3D as well as director David Lean’s celebrated Great Expectations in between, Arena attempts to answer the question of why Dickens’s novels have inspired so many hundreds of screen adaptations. Not only do his stories, themes and characters translate extremely well to the screen, but there is something essentially cinematic about his style. Dickens wrote the way a camera sees, before film had been invented.
